Blue Beanie Day is November 30 every year: celebrating and supporting web standards globally
Take a self-portrait wearing a blue beanie and post your Blue Beanie Day photos to Instagram, Twitter, Flickr, Facebook, and your other social network faves (hashtag #bluebeanieday). Don’t forget to slap a blue beanie on your Twitter profile. Thanks for supporting accessibility and web standards!
Since 2006, when web designer Jeffrey Zeldman created Blue Beanie Day, people around the globe change their profile photos on this day and present themselves sporting blue toques. The day aims to raise the awareness of the importance of web accessibility.
This year more than ever, Blue Beanie Day matters.
The more folks who tip their cap to Blue Beanie Day, the more we canraise awareness of web standards and the accessible, open web they make possible. It’s never been a better time to create web content and experiences, as more new designers join our ranks, using new tools and frameworks to create more better techniques and approaches to content, experience, and interactivity.
Help us spread the word! Show your support for web standards, inclusive design, and diversity within our community by adding a blue beanie to your social media avatar every November 30.
If you don’t have a blue beanie to call your own you, can add one digitally to your social media avatar: if you have Photoshop (or a roughly equivalent image editor) you can download this zipped Photoshop file here (45KB PSD), hand crafted by the magnificent Kevin Cornell.
